Story

Lunar, also known as the Silver Star, is a magical world brought to life by the Goddess Althena. The goddess Althena, along with her dragons, have dwelt on Lunar amongst the humans and beastmen for countless ages, ever protective and loving.

For as long as history records, Althena has re-appeared amongst her children and kept peace with the help of her servants, the legendary warriors known as Dragonmasters. However, fifteen years ago, the last Dragonmaster, Dyne, perished while in service to Althena, and the Goddess Althena has not been seen since. Since that time, there has not been another Dragonmaster.

And the world may yet need a new Dragonmaster -- for while everything is calm on the surface, many believe the world of Lunar will soon be plunged into chaos. Hushed whispers tell of the long-forgotten Vile Tribe on the move, lead by a shadowy figure known only as the Magic Emperor.

About

Debuting in 1992 in Japan and 1993 in the United States, Lunar: The Silver Star pioneered many of the techniques of modern role playing games. Published by Game Arts, Lunar was an instant classic and went on to become one of the MegaCD platform's best selling games.

Written by Japanese novelist Kei Shigema, Lunar: The Silver Star tells the story of Alex, a young boy from the remote mountain village of Burg who dreams of following in the footsteps of the late Dragonmaster Dyne. Together with step sister Luna, his friend Ramus, and the strangely cat-like Nall, they set out for an adventure, but become enveloped in a battle for their very world itself.

In addition to its story, Lunar: The Silver Star was also particularly known for its characters and beautiful cutscenes, the creation of Japanese artist Toshiyuki Kubooka, its soundtrack, the creation of Japanese composer Noriyuki Iwadare, and its innovations in battle.

Then, in 1996 in Japan, an updated version entitled Lunar: Silver Star Story was released, with remastered cutscenes from Japan's Studio Gonzo. This remake, on which Lunar: Silver Star Story Touch is based, went on to win considerable critical acclaim.

But the world of Lunar is vast, with many stories to be told.
